Speaker & Bio
Jermaine Wall
Jermaine Wall is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over a decade of experience in clinical therapy and social services, concentrating primarily on youth and adolescent mental health. Jermaine holds a Master of Social Work from the University of South Florida and a bachelor’s degree in Family, Youth, and Community Sciences with a Minor in Organization Leadership for Non-Profits. He is licensed in Georgia and Alabama and holds multiple specialized certifications, including Juvenile Sexual Offending Counselor. Jermaine is the founder and Clinical Therapist at Crescent Counseling Services in Birmingham, Alabama. Driven by a passion for destigmatizing mental health, Jermaine is committed to developing creative programming that optimizes mental well-being. Beyond his clinical endeavors, he further extends his impact by developing Social Emotional Learning (SEL) programs and services through his community-based initiative, Healthy Coping Club.
Itinerary
This presentation will explore the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on the development of problematic behaviors in youth, including problematic sexual behaviors (PSBs). We will discuss how to identify these behaviors, create safe and supportive environments, and implement effective interventions.
This session will also highlight key resources for professionals and families to better support at-risk youth. Designed for mental health professionals, educators, and caregivers, this talk aims to provide practical insights and strategies for addressing these challenges.
Training Objectives
1.Understand the Impact of ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences):
- Explore how ACEs influence children's development.
- Understand how ACEs contribute to problematic behaviors, including PSBs.
2. Understand Problematic Sexual Behaviors (PSBs) and Problematic Behaviors:
- Define and recognize PSBs in youth.
- Identify signs and symptoms of general problematic behaviors.
3. Creating Safe Spaces:
- Learn strategies to create supportive environments for children and adolescents.
- Understand the role of safety in behavior management.
4. Interventions for Managing Behaviors:
- Review effective interventions for addressing both PSBs and other problematic behaviors in youth.
- Discuss the importance of involving families in the intervention process.
5. Utilizing Resources for Support:
- Identify and effectively use resources available for professionals, families, and communities to support youth with problematic behaviors.
